{"id":1026,"date":"2016-10-21T20:28:43","date_gmt":"2016-10-21T18:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/?p=1026"},"modified":"2016-10-21T20:29:25","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T18:29:25","slug":"synology-refuses-to-admit-annoying-cloud-sync-bug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/2016\/10\/21\/synology-refuses-to-admit-annoying-cloud-sync-bug\/","title":{"rendered":"Synology refuses to admit annoying &#8220;Cloud Sync&#8221; Bug"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since about half a year I&#8217;m struggling with a very annoying bug in Synology&#8217;s &#8220;Cloud Sync&#8221; package I&#8217;m running on my expensive Synology DiskStation DS415+ NAS. It is still present as of today&#8217;s DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 2.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to backup my photos to my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/clouddrive\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon Drive<\/a>\/CloudDrive. As an Amazon Prime customer I can store an unlimited number of images, and <em>only<\/em> images &#8212; other files, like *.xmp sidecar files, will count against my general 5 GB limit.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that Synology&#8217;s Cloud Sync will upload the sidecar files, even though I explicitly only select &#8220;Images&#8221; to be backed up (and *.xmp is <em>not<\/em> part of Images, as I will show you!).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what I do:<\/p>\n<p>I launch the Cloud Sync applet:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-20.08.56.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1028\" src=\"https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-20.08.56.png\" alt=\"screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-20-08-56\" width=\"289\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-20.08.56.png 289w, https:\/\/bergs.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-20.08.56-150x106.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a>As soon as it opens up, the &#8220;Task Creation&#8221; wizard will start. Why are the sidecar files uploaded, even though I <em>only<\/em> checked *.cr2?<\/p>\n<p>Synology refuse to admit that the above described behavior is a bug. They say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Currently the issue you describe is part of our design, we intend you to create rules under others for items other than those included under the other categories. You&#8217;ll note there is not a default rule for *.xmp and so it will sync until one is made.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I cannot really accept this. Everybody with <em>some<\/em> experience in IT will regard this behavior as a bug. Nobody would design it <em>as is<\/em>, so also the manufacturer must admit it&#8217;s a bug.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s your view?
